Matsuyama Wins the WM Phoenix Open on 4th Playoff Hole

Hideki Matsuyama beat Rickie Fowler by a stroke in a four-hole playoff to finish 13 under and win the Waste Management Phoenix Open on Sunday.

Fowler bogeyed the 17th hole before ending the final round with a birdie. Matsuyama finished the 72 holes with three birdies to force the playoff.

The pair played No. 18 twice to open the playoff. Both golfers parred the first playoff hole before following it up with birdies on the second.

Fowler and Matsuyama continued with pars on the third playoff hole at No. 10.

At the 17th hole, Fowler drove into the water hazard and missed a putt for par, while Matsuyama finished off the win with a par.

The win was 23-year-old Matsuyama's second career PGA win.

The crowd of 65,330 Sunday pushed the week total to a record 618,365, shattering the mark of 564,368 set last year.

The event broke its own golf record Saturday at 201,003 after drawing a Friday-record 160,415.
