Dustin Johnson Wins U.S. Open Oakmont by 3 or was it 4

Dustin Johnson - 2016 Winner of the Oakmont U.S. Open
Dustin Johnson was the winner of the 2016 U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club, an almost impossible place to win.

He began the final round four strokes behind and won by three, including a penalty stroke that was assessed after the round was over.

With a 1-under par 69, he blew past Shane Lowry on the front nine and stayed ahead of Scott Piercy, Sergio Garcia, Jim Furyk, Branden Grace and Jason Day.

Said Johnson, "After last year, to come back this year and perform like this, I think it shows what kind of golfer I am and, you know, it was awesome. To finally get that major win, it's huge. It's a big monkey off my back for sure. I feel a lot lighter.''

Furyk (final-round 66), Piercy (69) and Lowry (76) tied for second at 1-under.

Said his closest competitor Shane Lowry, "Bitterly disappointed, standing here - and, you know, it's not easy to get yourself in a position I got myself in today. It was there for the taking and I didn't take it.''

On the back nine, Johnson and other players were informed D. Johnson could be facing a penalty stroke because his ball moved as he addressed it on the fifth green.

Johnson concluded, "I felt like I wasn't going to be penalized, so I just went about my business.''

The USGA knew differently and they weren't talking. However, the controversial penalty was put in place after the round.

Johnson collected his 10th PGA Tour victory, a $1.8 million check and the sterling silver U.S. Open Trophy, which was presented to him by Jack Nicklaus.
