Meet Caroline Masson |
Masson came into the final round of the Manulife LPGA Classic at 11-under, tied for fifth and three shots off the lead and then promptly double-bogeyed the opening hole.
Caroline birdied the next three holes on her way to a nine-birdie round, a win and her first LPGA title.
Masson said of that first LPGA win, “It’s hard to believe, it really is. Obviously I was in a good position coming into today and I was thinking if I could shoot a really good round I might have a chance but I was totally not expecting it after getting off to that really bad start.
From then on I just told myself there was no pressure to win or do anything, just keep making birdies and that’s what I did all day.”
A few of the ladies doused her with the non-traditional beer shower.
“I think they picked beer because I’m German. I guess they figured I could take it. It’s pretty sticky and they had a lot of beer too. But I prefer the beer over the water I think,” said Masson.
The Champion finished at 16-under with bragging rights, a win under her belt and $240,000 from a purse of $1.6 million.
She will take a few days off to celebrate her 19th birthday this week before heading over to France for the final major of the LPGA schedule, the Evian Championship September 15-18.
